The Hollow
Hasten your steps to move away from me
For I exist now cold, a shell.
Amid peeling plaster and broken glass
There is a chill, a foreign dampness that
Fills these halls once bright and lit with warmth and laughter.
I keep watch as dawn laps at the eves and spills
up and over the rooftop
Guilding the morning rich and golden.
I seal out the rains you once watched through these tired
Panes of clouded glass
And my walls still tremble only slightly as thunder rumbles
In the foothills distant.
We once, together watched the evening fade to dusk
As twilight began its play in shadow
Bathed in crimson and purple hues.
Under a diamond and black velvet canope
I held you safe and warm.
These scenes, now ghosts woven within these walls
Harbor such longing as I wait patient for your return.
And as days etch into years I am left to weep alone
An empty shell of broken shards, of memories and
Fading light
My heart no longer whole I have become the hollow.
